Uplifting Trance

This genre of Trance is undoubtedly the most upllifting and emotive of Trance music. Dynamic in both timbre and depth uplifting Trance pushed to the forefront in the late 1990s. Having now progressed, this genre typically shows much more depth and intricate programming/processing and synthesiser work than when it previously made a commercial appearance. Not to be confused with Vocal Trance, this genre is now much less commercial with many of the vocal releases making a chart appearance.

Progressive Trance

Progressive Trance is, by name, progressive music building up continually throughout the length of the track. Traits of this genre are long, melodic and atmospheric breakdowns that build progressively until reaching it's height without any prominent percussion elements present. Just when you'd expect to hear the height of the track it often drops down to the bare minimum and doesn't often achieve an epic climax as Uplifting Trance does.

Vocal Trance

Vocal Trance tends to be much more commercial and more on a 'pop' level although vocals have accompanied some of the top non-commercial Trance tracks successfully. Vocal songs often utilise airy vocal sounds, predominantly female, often following a particular theme of love, happiness, beauty and other positive emotion.

Opera Trance

Opera Trance is something that has never been particularly commercial, although some artists have achieved success from this particular genre of two styles combined. This collaboration demonstrates the similarities of Trance and Classical music overlaid with classic Operatic vocals.

Ambient Trance

Although not strictly Trance by nature this genre incorporates much of the melodic and power elements that is typically associated with Trance music. With the driving percussion stripped out and the emphasis more on mood, Ambient Trance can build and fall in similar places and deliver power in the same way but on a much less upfront level.
