Event DJs

When booking an event DJ there are a few things you need to know and should be aware that event DJs differ greatly from regular club or bar DJs.

The DJ

An average bar or club DJ will play music within a set style that suits either the venue or the event that they have been booked to perform at. Most of these DJs, including many bar DJs, have their own style and are booked to perform that particular style at gigs or venues that cater for an audience that can appreciate the genre they are known to play.

Event DJs on the other hand are booked primarily to cater to a much more general audience. They are often booked for weddings, corporate events and general gatherings that will see attendees of varying tastes, ages and cultures.

This often means that the DJ will have to generalise their playlist and 'test the water' by playing a variety of different styles of music analysing the audience until they can settle on a particular genre that gets a positive reaction from the majority.

Event DJs such as these often provide their own equipment, or at least supply equipment if they do not own it themselves, and can include lighting shows. Ensure you know exactly what you are paying for and that there are no hidden charges or extras for utilising the light show or having the DJ emcee.

Working With an Event DJ

Not all event DJs believe in working closely with their clients in advance of each occasion so it's a good idea to ensure they know exactly what kind of event you are planning and ensure the music they are going to play at your event is suitable for your audience and to your satisfaction.

Working With the Best

Meet with your potential entertainer and ensure you are happy with everything before going ahead and booking them to perform at your event. Make sure you know about the financial side also, such as deposits, how far in advance this must be paid and what payment methods they accept.
