About the DJ...

DJ Sonarm is a Midlands based Dance DJ located in the heart of Leicester. Having been DJing since late 2000, DJ Sonarm started to perform Trance sets at live events around his home city in 2002 alongside DJ Tom Sonik claiming residencies at Diversion and Translucent. DJ Sonarm has also played at other events around the Midlands at venues including The Shed, The Charlotte, The Y-Theatre, DeMontfort University Students Union and also at the DeMontfort Hall.

DJ Sonarm plays music ranging from funky and progressive Dance through melodic, uplifting and hard Trance incorporating the odd track with Techno, Electro or Tribal influences. He also tries to incorporate Breakbeat oriented tracks and more creative mixing techniques and ideas to add further eclecticism to the set and to help give him that edge over other DJ's without compromising on the overall enjoyment of the set.

DJ Sonarmon performing as a DJ"DJing is a way for me to perform in a live environment and work off the top of my head according to the mood just as a vocalist would do when improvising. As a DJ I feel I can express myself more spontaneously as opposed to when I write music under my Sonarm guise and I can get a more instant response from the audience."

While performing at clubs and bars Trance DJ Sonarm also set up and promoted several club nights and events around Leicester involving both aspiring and established non Trance DJs and MCs in order to promote Leicestershire's local talent combined with new music. He then moved on to setting up an online radio station helping both unsigned and independent artists get their music heard by more people and providing them with new means of obtaining additional exposure for their music.

DJ Sonarmon his technique"My mixing technique follows the style of music being played. When I DJ Trance music that builds in layers, such as progressive Trance or uplifting Trance, I layer up elements of other tracks to help lift the live track even further and to incorporate a small amount of variation to the original track. With the harder edge of Trance music, my mixing becomes harsher with more noticeable tricks and techniques while still keeping that flow Trance carries with it."

DJ Sonarm has also invented and copyrighted his own DJing technique known as freephasing - a different and manipulative take on phasing - which can occasionally be seen performed live helping him stand out from the 'regular DJ'.
